North Hagley Park Fog

This shot is from an early Saturday morning at North Hagley Park in Christchurch. We arrived early for William's rugby match for his Under 9 Sumner Stingray's team. The fog was thick, and practice before the game was interesting, but the fog lifted by the start of the test.

The surf was pretty darn good this weekend. With the swells coming in best by the head the rescue boat was there taking guys away from the rocks when they got too close.

A three shot panorama from the top of the cathedral in Christchurch New Zealand. This was from the summer of 2009. I posted a version on my flickr photostream that has the crowd magically removed via photoshop. I was practicing the removal of objects from a photo.

Another aircraft from the New Zealand Air Force Museum. This particular aircraft is a DeHavilland DC-47B (During World War II, the armed forces of many countries used the C-47 and modified DC-3s for the transport of troops, cargo and wounded. Over 10,000 aircraft were produced in Long Beach and Santa Monica, California and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Oklahoma City plant produced 5,354 C-47s from March 1943 until August 1945.

Sumner from Scarborough Now

I was in the local library here in Sumner and I found various historical photos of Sumner and Redcliffs. These books highlighted the history of the area and included many photos from the Sumner Museum. There are also 5 large panorama photos from Sumner on the walls of the library. I thought it would be neat to re-take some of these photos now to show a before and after, or an "then & now" version of the photos. I will try to get some scans of the ones from the library or the museum to put on the site as well.

There is a series of books in the U.S. called Then & Now which visits many of the major cities in that country to show photos from early in their history to very recent photos and stories. I think it would be great to have similar books from other cities around the world and this little area of Sumner, Christchurch New Zealand is a perfect place to start.

We had an unexpected visitor to our dinner table one night here in New Zealand. I didn't know praying mantis could move as fast as this little guy did. I had to just snap a lot of pics and hope I got one in focus. I did, just not quite as close as I was hoping to get.

If you look at the *before* shot, this really was upside down on our door frame.

The boys and I went for a walk this past weekend. As we were leaving we went to the chocolate shop half a block away and Cathy, the very friendly store keeper, asked us if we had tried various walks around here. I talked about some of the one we have gone on, but then she mentioned one that went to some old WWII battlements and a tunnel cut in the hill to access the gun emplacements. This sounded cool for the boys so we decided to go there.

With our chocolates in hand we set off to explore.

I was playing cricket on the beach with my two boys when I remembered I had this new Pano app on my iPhone. I like it, I can make quick pano's when ever I want. I will try this when it is daylight to see if I can get a better focus. This is a fun toy.

Lake Union Take Off

Taken from the my hotel room window on my recent trip to Seattle, WA. Kenmore Air has many aircraft that take off and land at this lake in Seattle. There are many great restaurants around this lake as well. Had some great seafood chowder just across the lake.
